Wooyoungmi Spring/Summer 2014

Spring/Summer 2014 sees a departure from Wooyoungmi’s steady focus on her ideal man as source of inspiration. Rather, a setting and its story are the designer’s preoccupation for the season. With the snow still fresh on the streets of Paris the designer’s thoughts sprung to a scorched desert landscape. Absorbed by the graphic nature of the environment she began to extract the simple line, form and colour. The essence of the collection speaks of the minimalism of this place.

Terracotta, cactus green, and sky blue – three colour blocks that meet to create the landscape – inform the season’s palette. A sandy beige softens the mix while a pure streak of cloud white cuts through the collection in horizontal and vertical stripes making a suggestion of active-wear. The vivid lines of a horizon cut across jackets, knits and trouser legs or are re-envisaged in the fall of long line shirts layered under fine knits.

Working with denim for the first time, luxurious Japanese denims are combined until they no longer conform to their casual heritage. White, light blue and indigo variations are cut into wide legged pants to be worn with tailored jackets of the same fabric, elegant jumpsuits, buttoned up shirts and stiff bodied tee-shirts. The sharp line of the collection is echoed in the repetitive multi-strap of the sandals. The result is clean, modern, and urban.
