Matiere Spring/Summer 2017 New York

By Frederick Marfil

Matiere’s love of San Francisco and the Grateful Dead shone through in its spring collection. “We love San Francisco and the northern region and wanted to tie it into the grittiness of the city,” said designer Scot Shandalone.

For more than 25 years, Shandalone has followed the Grateful Dead while creating tie dyes and selling T-shirts out of the back of his car. That affection showed through in a lineup that featured overblown seersucker, Japanese raw terry silk and crepe fabrics, double-dip-dyed linen threaded slubs and waterproof nylon outerwear. Eyewear is from Lucky Selectism they are based in New York.

Highlights included an Italian lambskin leather bomber paired with a Japanese twill pant and navy ombré crepe jersey T-shirt and a long-sleeved woven.
