J.W. Anderson Spring/Summer 2018 Pitti Uomo

All people were seated on the floor of Florence’s Villia La Pietra to watch the new J.W. Anderson fashion show Spring/Summer 2018. It was a cloudy but lovely day to present a chic, casual collaboration with Converse, intriducing denim jackets, lettering denim jeans and a lot of hearts pattern on trendy coats, fancy jackets and trousers.

This is the first time of J.W. Anderson presenting outside of London, for Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson established since in 2008.

The success of this debut collection earned both critical acclaim and commercial success for Anderson, whose label is now regarded as one of London’s most innovative and forward thinking brands.

Its unique design aesthetic offers a modern interpretation of masculinity and femininity by creating thought-provoking silhouettes through a conscious cross-pollination between menswear and womenswear elements. This idiosyncratic perspective, which earned the label a cult following, prompted J.W.Anderson to present a women’s capsule collection in 2010.

But Jonathan took his brand to another level, with adorned shirts, coats and khaki pants with an aesthetic heart pattern, There were also rainbow-hued, heart knits for those who want the hearts on their sleeves to speak a little louder.

Not to be outdone by the enormous shoppers at Balenciaga, Anderson created gigantic tote bags for his male models to carry down the runway. The bags, some striped and others printed with his logo, seemed to be empty—all the better for the models to sprint down the catwalk with.

In addition to studded flip-flops, models wore two Converse sneaker styles made in collaboration with the American brand. There’s a J.W. take on the iconic All-Star, done in cobalt and kelly green glitter, and a version of the One Star style with frayed seams in indigo blue.

Jeans, bags, and graphic tees were printed with a new J.W. Anderson logo done in a style evocative of Coca Cola’s classic script. It’s just the latest in a string of logos being re-appropriated at Men’s Fashion Week.

There are slogan tees, but what about portrait tees? Look 20 featured a large t-shirt with Anderson himself printed on it styled as an Army officer with the text: Militant men wear J.W. Anderson. Amen.
