Will Traveling Boost My Male Model Career?

If you want to become a genuine male model, then you can’t do this by social media alone. The fact is that you are going to have to travel on a regular basis. It will boost your career, but it is also a necessity if you want to earn a good living. If the catwalk show is in New York then you will need to follow the work and that means getting on a plane. Male models make on average $28,000 a year, but if you want to make more and further your career, you’re going to have to become international.

Who pays for my travel expenses?

In general, you will be handling your own travel expenses including tickets and insurance. When you are first starting out in your career, you may have to weigh up whether it is worth it financially to accept a job further afield. Sometimes it may be of benefit for you to take on work in knowing that you will be making a loss, simply to add to your portfolio and create more exposure. It may also be a good opportunity to meet important people within the industry – this can be extremely valuable.

Taking care of yourself

If you are traveling regularly, doing long haul flights, train journeys etc, make sure that you are disciplined about looking after yourself. After all, a model needs to look good. Take every opportunity to get some sleep and make sure that you keep your skin well-moisturized. Make sure that you get enough exercise too (even if it’s jogging up and down the airport). Jet-setting might seem glamorous, but in reality it can be tiring and hard work. There can also be a lot of waiting around when you are on location for a shoot. Use this time wisely for essential self-maintenance.

Make sure that you are always prepared

If you want to boost your modeling career, make sure that you are always prepared to travel at a moment’s notice. Keep a bag packed with go-see clothing and leave your passport somewhere you can find it quickly. Don’t be surprised when you have to cancel other plans that you may have, birthdays, football games, weddings. Sometimes you will have to make personal sacrifices when you are asked to travel to a modeling job.

You will see a lot of amazing places when you are traveling for your modeling career. Just don’t forget that you are there to work and ultimately become well known within the industry.
