British fashion designer Paul Smith took center stage at Pitti Uomo in Florence to unveil his Spring/Summer 2025 menswear collection, marking his return to the city after 31 years. Inspired by the vibrant, artistic atmosphere of 1960s Soho, the collection exudes a relaxed yet chic aesthetic, blending traditional tailoring with a contemporary, bohemian flair.

In true Paul Smith fashion, the presentation showcased the designer’s knack for capturing everyday moments and transforming them into captivating visuals. The Paul Café, set against the opulent backdrop of Villa Favard, transported guests to a bygone era of Italian cafés in London’s Soho, where Smith had spent many a “naughty” night. The runway featured models sporting loosely knotted ties with playful motifs, denim chore jackets, and fluid, unstructured blazers in a nod to the casual elegance of the past.

A celebration of Italian craftsmanship and local artistry lay at the heart of the collection, with Smith sourcing luxurious fabrics from Italy and incorporating them into the designs. Eye-catching prints and patterns, such as classic houndstooth and Prince of Wales checks, were paired with bold, statement-making outerwear, reflecting the designer’s innovative and daring approach to menswear.

Notably, the collaboration between Paul Smith and denim specialist brand Lee was announced during the presentation. This partnership pays homage to Smith’s enduring love for Lee’s rugged, utilitarian designs and merges them with his distinctive design ethos. The result is a refreshing take on the workwear aesthetic that continues to dominate the menswear landscape at Pitti Uomo.

As the SS25 collection unfolded, it became evident that Paul Smith remains a master of his craft, effortlessly blending tradition with modernity while infusing his designs with a sense of whimsy and playfulness. The presentation not only highlighted the designer’s commitment to quality and artistry but also showcased his deep appreciation for the cultural influences that have shaped his creative journey.

With this collection, Paul Smith once again proves that his unique perspective and dedication to the art of fashion remain as strong as ever.

The Paul Café may have been a temporary installation, but its spirit lives on in the SS25 menswear collection, inviting us all to experience the charm and allure of a bygone era through the lens of modern design.
