I always envisioned a quartet of pieces with Seb. These two complete that. “Closer” (after the Nine Inch Nails song) is sort of the sibling of “I’ll Be Your Mirror.” There are a couple of different layers of meaning. I hope. “Blank Generation” uses a lyric from a classic punk tune and is more cheeky. Older people seem so distressed about the state of youth today. And this 30-year-old song by Richard Hell is a brilliant piss take on the exact same issue. Plus ça change…. Of course the real joke here is the fact that Sebastian is the antithesis of blank! Just knowing that adds to the piece.
