Holding a presentation during New York Fashion Week, Ralph Lauren offered a glimpse at the upcoming fall season with new looks fromPolo Ralph Lauren and Ralph Lauren Purple Label. Ralph Lauren declared Purple Label his “declaration of masculine elegance.” The preppy heritage of the Polo line continued to shine in a double-breasted camel hair coat over red corduroy pants and a teal cashmere cable knit. The designer also took the opportunity to reintroduce the Polo Sport line, interpreted this time in a colorful assortment with performance attributes.
Although Polo was in the spotlight, the designer also offered up the latest in his upscale Purple Label collection. “This is the big thrust of our company,” Lauren said. He started with “a statement about formalwear,” showing a jacquard, shawl-lapel tuxedo, a double-breasted velvet smoking jacket in eggplant, and a sleek bodysuit. The jumpsuit was inspired by Winston Churchill, he said.
