“This is not a vintage collection,” insisted Barnabé Hardy at the presentation of his first fall effort for Carven. Despite the obvious late Seventies and early Eighties references — cue corduroy pants and Space Invader motifs — the designer managed to stay in the present, conjuring a youthful, relevant vibe.
Hardy styled a series of classic suits, featuring full-length pants with ultralong knitted scarves. Knit inserts on flannel blazers with shawl-shaped collars looked stylish yet playful, as did a bomber with rib-knit hems.
The collection’s overall retro-preppy flair was juxtaposed with printed nylon and crinkled vinyl accents, as seen on some undercoats and accessories.
