Pineda Covalín Fall/Winter 2016 Mexico City

Over 20 years, comprising Cristina Pineda and Ricardo Covalin, tandem narrated through their stories creations that emerge from the rich cultural background of Mexico and Latin America. This time was no exception.

It may sound cliché, but explore the mythical narratives that seek to give answers to the origin of the universe and humanity is a topic that will always be present in the nature of man, especially of those who through their works seek to unravel these mysteries. Therefore, and taking as a framework the celebration of its twentieth anniversary, the brand revisits the issue of the origin and cosmogony. Over 20 years, comprising Cristina Pineda and Ricardo Covalin, tandem narrated through their stories creations that emerge from the rich cultural background of Mexico and Latin America. This time was no exception.

Anthology for Fall / Winter 2016-17, Pineda Covalín invited two Mexican talent to imprimieran his vision. It is Macario Jimenez, who focused on the women’s collection, and Los Vladimirovich, a group that was dedicated to the proposal for gentlemen, named Homecoming. For Jimenez, his greatest inspiration was the brand itself. “This collection aims to reaffirm the aesthetics of the firm, highlighting the simplicity of its silhouette, which contrast with the maximalism of the prints that are part of their DNA,” says Jimenez. Red, magenta and blue were the colors that highlighted a proposal rich in prints that evoked the beginnings of both seals (Pineda Covalín and Macario Jimenez), resulting in a well-designed and made with silk that emphasized femininity through an organic line sense of freedom and movement.

Meanwhile, the brand’s Vladimirovich, established in 2009, reflected on the current Mexican man and what being a citizen of a multicultural and changing Mexico. A capsule 10 looks composed primarily of coats, jackets and trench coats -based textures, feelings and impressions that arouse Amulets and Haramara canvases, created by Pineda Covalín and possessing a strong mystic content were the starting point to engage with the world view of various ethnic groups. The group showed a compilation based on contemporary taciturn man, in which he stressed his sartorial heritage merged with streetwear guidelines. The result? A combination of comfort and luxury that eclecticism and symbolism were the two most powerful aspects.
