MSGM Spring/Summer 2017 Milan

By Miles Socha

Black audio cables snaked through the MSGM show set, the speaker stacks, road case trunks and moving head beams arranged haphazardly in the middle of the runway.

There is no deep reason why Massimo Giorgetti decided to give his spring collection a Nineties rave theme. His memories of those outdoor parties — hailed as social levelers and damn good fun — were extremely happy ones.

The collection was as upbeat and energetic as the throbbing house soundtrack — a lively mix of nylon track suits, acid wash jeans, colorful Windbreakers and sweaters with athletic stripes. The hazy prints of trees and crowds in psychedelic shades were borrowed from Pet Shop Boys videos and Massimo Vitale nightclub photos.

Giorgetti shoehorned in a sleek navy suit with flaring pants and a few striped shirts and preppy sweaters — not exactly what one would expect on a sweaty, churning dance floor. A happy medium was the finale sweaters and smock tops in an argyle pattern that had been warped as if on Ecstasy.
