Rochambeau Spring/Summer 2017 New York

By Jean E. Palmieri

In a season where travel to exotic locales seems to be the overriding message, Rochambeau chose Morocco as the theme for its summer escape. Voluminous caftans, high-waisted cropped summer pants and silk shirts defined the sense of adventure.

“Your style is created by the environment you’re in,” said codesigner Laurence Chandler.

The Moroccan tile and blanket prints, the uncharacteristic bright color palette and the occasional turban also served to elevate the offering. “It’s blasted with color,” Chandler said of the lavender and coral hues.

Designers often get lost in a theme, but this wasn’t the case with Rochambeau. The brand’s ability to tell a cohesive story allowed it to create a lifestyle that is effectively moving it farther away from its streetwear roots.
