Fan-favorite Don Hood has spent July in Europe wreaking havoc and being sexy as ever for the camera, as many of you have seen documented on his Instagram account.
Recently PnV/Fashionably Male caught up with Don in London to see what he’s been up to and to take a peek at some new, exclusive images captured by talented Joseph Sinclair, whose work is no stranger to American audiences of male model photography as well as fashion and celebrity photography.
Don Hood in London
At the moment, Don, you’re in London and we’re showcasing some images taken there by Joseph Sinclair. Tell us about working with Joseph.
I’ve known Joseph Sinclair for a decade now. We first met in NYC in 2008 when he was test shooting and first building his book. From the first time we shot we gelled instantly.
The first shoot we did I was with Ford models and we shot for Dorian Magazine.
On that shoot is where I first met Roy Fire who is known today as the CO and editor in chief of Adon magazine but back then he was a well-known and established stylist who ended up styling our shoot that day.
I went for drinks with Joseph and his husband Ryan that night after our shoot and from that moment on I knew I had made friends for life.
Every time they came to visit New York we would hangout or shoot or both. We’d talk so much in our time apart that when we got to see each other in NYC it always felt like there was no time apart.
This current shoot was the first time I got to work with Joseph in his own studio as I haven’t been to London in over a decade. I got to work with one of Joseph’s friends Lauren Kay, who did my grooming.
Another case of instant connection! I love knowing that I get to walk from London with amazing images and an extension on my British family.
You’ve been in Europe for about a month. Catch us up to speed on what brought you there…projects, etc.
I signed with Next Models London about 3 years ago. Ever since signing, the head of the men’s commercial board, Reaan Mans has been asking me to come out so I can meet with the clients out here and work and build my book.
My first booking with Reaan at Next was actually a booking I acquired through Instagram when the director of New Look clothing stores reached out to me to shoot their swim campaign.
I was excited to be bringing a client to the table on my own especially one as big as New Look, so I knew my relationship at Next Models was going to be a beautiful one.
Since arriving in London it has actually been very slow. Everyone starts going on holiday for the month of August.
I’ve used the time here to catch up with friends that I haven’t seen in forever as well as focus on working out and reaching out to photographers to continue to keep my book moving in a EU direction while I’m here.
I am optioned for a catalogue job this weekend in Manchester that I hope goes through to make the trip financially worth but in the end if all I get is a handful of great new images for my book and catch up time with some close friends, then it was worth the month long trip out here.
Don, anything new coming happening for rest of 2018?
One of the clients that I met with out here has been in contact with me over the last two years on social media.
He runs a men’s high end swim suit company here in London. I finally got to meet with him and his team so hopefully that’s a step closer to being a part of their family in their next campaign.
I’m hoping to make it to Milan for the month of Nov-Dec to spend some time with D’management group for my next travel trip.
Europe by far is my favorite place outside of the states, and I’ll be sad to leave. Don concludes.
