MANGO Man presents Icon of Style 2018: David Gandy

That said, MANGO Man reveals ‘Icon of Style’ 2018 Top Model David Gandy

Watch the film below and read the interview by MANGO and you can judge if Top Model David Gandy deserves to be an Icon of Style, we must agreed.

Intervening a Fall/Winter 2018 menswear collection, David chooses the best outfits and pieces from MANGO available for you.

An entrepreneur with a devotion to charity work shares his passions: style, his rescued dog Dora, the romance of classic cars and the challenge of embarking on new projects.

David Gandy needs little, if any, introduction. A rara avis, he has risen far above and beyond the world of male modelling. Although he has been labelled (quite fairly) a supermodel, Gandy is now so much more than that. An entrepreneur with a devotion to charity work, he shares his passions: style, his rescued dog Dora, the romance of classic cars and the challenge of embarking on new projects.

MANGO Man presents Icon of Style 2018: David Gandy

First and foremost, he is the brains behind the David Gandy brand: a global operation based on his style, vision and gravitas. This transoceanic corporation has Gandy and associates busy in a very broad range of tasks that span from fashion and film to business and charity work.

MNG: How do you understand the concept of style?

DG: It’s a complicated thing. The definition of style to one person is so different to someone else’s. But as I understand it, style is an overall substance. Style happens when someone has an eye for something. And not just in clothes. It’s in materials, colors, interiors, cars, watches and all forms of design.

MNG: Is there a piece you’ll never get rid of?

DG: I very rarely get rid of garments. People think I have stylists and clothes sent from all over the world but I don’t. For an event I pulled out a chambray shirt with a new jacket and an old pair of jeans that I’d got from a charity shop in New York. They raved about the look and it was stuff that had been in my closet for years.

MNG: As a man moves away from his twenties towards his forties, what are the his style assets?

DG: He’s more educated and becomes more confident as an individual. Knowledge and wisdom help with style. It’s also helpful to know your references. I’ve designed menswear after inspiring films and my own education in military fashion history.

MNG: What do you look for in a car?

DG: Speed. Style. And the romantic element of classical cars. I collect more classics than modern. It’s the historical factor that I love.

MNG: Which is the first thing that grabs your attention when you see a car?

DG: It’s totally heartfelt. I click with the style, the look or something else: The passion of owning that classic car. What appeals to me isn’t about investment. What I think is: “I want that one. I want to renovate it and make sure it’s around for another sixty years”

MNG: You serve as ambassador for, among a few other non-profit organisations, the Battersea Cats & Dogs Home. What is your pet Dora’s story?

DG: When their pets need to come out of the kennels for a break, they spend some time with me and my parents. Dora came in once as Battersea asked me to look after her for a couple of weeks and she never went back. She’s my first dog.

MNG: How has Dora changed you?

DG: She has changed my life so much. A dog relies on you as much as a small child does. You have the responsibility to walk her, feed her, take her to the vet. That’s why I had never had a dog: I’d always been traveling. As I work to push responsible ownership, I’ve finally got to a stage in life where I can home a dog and give her the life she needs.

MNG: What draws you to new projects at this stage of your life?

DG: I need to constantly challenge myself. It’s this urge to scare myself. And it’s the same with work: the challenge is to confront the fear of the unknown – all the time. Whether a project works or not, there are no regrets.

MNG: The best thing about your collaboration with Mango?

DG: It’s the fit. The style. The colours. The textures and the quality. But especially the fit. I’m very picky as I try not to be influenced by any brand that I work with. And with Mango I felt like the brand and I were aligned. After sixteen years in the industry, if I’ve learnt anything, it is what appeals to my followers. And I know they will connect with these looks.
