3 Male Fashion Photographers to Watch in 2019

Through the ages, fashion photography has been responsible for bringing the greatest designs and fashion trends from around the world right to the doorstep of the eagerly-awaiting public.

While the world has, for decades, been singing the praises of the likes of photographers such as Helmut Newton, Steven Meisel, and Peter Lindbergh, an increasing number of immensely-talented young photographers are slowly making their mark in the industry.

From Micaiah Carter to Xavier Scott Marshall, here is a closer look at some of the hottest young male talent to keep an eye on this year.

Micaiah Carter

Micaiah Carter may only be 23 years old but he already counts the likes of Nike, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Puma, Adidas, and Netflix among his clients.

Raised in the Mojave Desert and currently based in Brooklyn, New York, Micaiah’s work is best described as an amalgamation of fine art, street style, and a very modern youth culture.

CanvasPop asserts that photographs such as those taken by Carter do not only belong on the covers of the world’s most renowned fashion magazines but on the walls of every contemporary home as well.

Noma Osula

The 26-year old Lagos-based artist and photographer is fast making a name for himself on the local and international fashion scene.

Osula’s style is an eclectic mix of dark humor, contradictions, and complexities that are all inspired by Nigerian traditions and culture.

His use of sharp contrasts and vibrant colors are largely what makes his work so increasingly popular to designers such as Jonathan Anderson who highlighted Osula’s photos in a J.W. Anderson exhibition in London.

Apart from rendering a powerful visual story, Osula’s style is also somewhat of an insubordination of Africa’s continuous portrayal as a primitive and inherently dark continent.

Xavier Scott Marshall

Although not solely a fashion photographer by trade, 22-year old Xavier Scott Marshall is fast making a name for himself in the most elite of global fashion circles.

Marshall was fortunate enough to receive the best education any aspiring fashion photographer could dream of: assisting none other than sought-after photographer, Steven Klein.

Xavier has displayed a unique flair for capturing the very essence of super-cool subjects such as Ian Isaiah, Dey Heynes, and Dilone.

While he enjoys the praise he receives for his photos, Marshall hopes that people will enjoy a deeper meaning in his work as well as he actively aims to incorporate his experiences as a 1st-generation Trinidadian-American into everything he does.

Fashion photography has always played an important role in the fashion industry and will continue to do so. Judging by the new talent entering the market, fashion photography undoubtedly has a very exciting future ahead of it.
