Palomo Spain RTW Spring 2024 New York

In a rapidly evolving industry that encompasses both excitement and monotony, designer Alejandro Gomez Palomo possesses a profound aversion to conforming to conventional norms.

The esteemed Spanish brand is showcasing its collection of enchanting fairy tales at prominent international fashion weeks. The garments effortlessly amalgamate the designer’s humble hometown influences with an unapologetically queer creative perspective.

The designer unveiled his most recent creation at the renowned Terrace Room of the prestigious Plaza Hotel. The opulent venue was adorned with gilded walls, mirrors embellished with gold trimmings, grand chandeliers suspended from the ceiling, and an abundance of blooming roses creating an exquisite ambiance.

“Finally I get to do a show in a grand space. I don’t know how I always managed to show in like a square white box in New York, and I really wanted to bring color into a place where I’m more used to showing my things, like I would do in Paris or Madrid. So I felt the Plaza would be the place.”

Palomo Spain

He is an advocate for gender-neutral fashion and strives to create a world where his designs encompass both feminine and masculine elements harmoniously. Showcasing a predominantly male model lineup, interspersed with a few female models, his collection juxtaposed sensuality and elegance, evident in pieces adorned with feathers, sheer lace tanks embellished with oversized roses in shades of red and cream. In addition, denim played a prominent role in the collection, featuring daring designs such as denim shorts with alluring cutouts at the back, paired with lace bloomers and high-neck dresses. The juxtaposition continued with loose-fitting denim ensembles complemented by baby-doll dresses and flowing capes crafted from delicate fabrics like silk.

There were corsets aplenty in new interpretations (some very exaggerated in proportions and even in leather). The accessories enlivened the lineup with elaborate rose chokers, ear cuffs, and rose shaped bags in red and black ranging from clutch-sized to the oversized sculptural, done in collaboration with the Spanish-based brand Bimba y Lola.

For Palomo, a sense of decadence and the ethereal are the components that keep the brand’s fan base wanting more.
