On July 3rd, 2024, the picturesque island of Sardinia played host to the Dolce&Gabbana Alta Sartoria Fashion Show, an event that epitomized the pinnacle of sartorial elegance and cultural homage. The theme, “Soul of Sartoria,” resonated deeply with the audience, encapsulating the rich cultural traditions and artisanal craftsmanship of Sardinia.

Artisanal Masterpieces Inspired by Sardinian Tradition
The Alta Sartoria creations were a visual feast, adorned with exquisite floral motifs created through petit point, crochet, and embroidery. Luxurious fabrics such as moiré, lace, and velvet were embellished with intricate handcrafted details, each piece a testament to the dedication and skill of the artisans. The designs drew inspiration from the iconic Sant’Efisio Parade, a profound celebration of Sardinian heritage, and the island’s traditional attire, such as the substantial wool coat ‘mastruca’ worn by the ‘Mamuthones’ during the Mamoiada Carnival.

Each garment was a tribute to Sardinia’s artisanal legacy, showcasing techniques like ‘piobiones’—grape cluster motifs woven on traditional hand looms. These masterpieces told timeless tales of history and craftsmanship, bridging the past and present in a vibrant display of tradition and artistry.

The Enchanting Sant’Efisio Parade
Central to the Alta Sartoria theme was the Sant’Efisio Parade, held annually in Cagliari from May 1st to 4th. This historic event commemorates Saint Efisio, credited with freeing Sardinia from the plague in 1656. The parade is a vivid spectacle, with the statue of Sant’Efisio transported through the streets on a gilded cart, accompanied by elaborately adorned “traccas”—traditional ox-drawn carts. Participants from across the island don traditional costumes, creating a living tableau of Sardinian heritage.

The parade highlights Sardinia’s rich folklore, featuring enigmatic masks that embody ancient rituals and propitiatory ceremonies. These handcrafted masks, worn during festivals like Mamoiada’s Carnival, serve as powerful symbols of the island’s cultural legacy, bringing history to life in a vibrant display of tradition and artistry.

Fatto a Mano: The Essence of Handmade Craftsmanship
“Fatto a Mano,” or ‘Made by Hand,’ is at the heart of Alta Sartoria’s philosophy. Each piece in the collection celebrates the timeless beauty of handmade craftsmanship, from the intricate ‘piobiones’ weaving technique to delicate embroidery and luxurious fabrics. This commitment to artisanal excellence not only honors traditional techniques but also ensures that each creation is a unique work of art, embodying the true spirit of Sardinian heritage.

A Memorable Instagram Quote from Bryan Yambao
Influencer and fashion blogger Bryan Yambao, who attended the event, shared his thoughts on Instagram:
“For the past several years, Dolce & Gabbana has been hosting a five-day extravaganza, usually held in the summer after the Paris Haute Couture shows, featuring their Alta Gioielleria (High Jewelry), Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria fashion shows to a very privileged group of guests — the fashion house’s fabulous clients, family, friends, celebrities and press.

I’ve gone to thousands of shows and brand-hosted events all over the world but I can say this with utter confidence that none of them can match the scale and level of production and hospitality Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce pour into. 100% Brand Experience Masterclass!

From the moment you arrive, everything is well taken care of, no detail is spared. Every location is different — I’ve been to three Alta Moda events so far — this year is in Sardinia. They truly capture the essence of the place they’re showing, paying respect to its history, cultural significance and artisans.

I have never seen or experienced anything like this in terms of brand experiences, which often feel very impersonal and corporate. To attend a Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda event is like being in the apex of Stefano and Domenico’s beautiful universe.
What a luxury to witness them share their gifts to the world! Beautiful, well-made clothes that make everyone look and feel absolutely beautiful.

Also, the people watching is incredible. The very loyal clients are all so fabulous and friendly — watching them beam with pride and joy as they show off their latest acquisitions is very addictive and highly infectious — you really feel so happy for them!”

Heritage in Every Detail and Stitch
The Dolce&Gabbana Alta Sartoria Fashion Show in Sardinia was not merely an event but a grand homage to the island’s rich cultural tapestry. Through exquisite designs, intricate craftsmanship, and a deep respect for tradition, the fashion house showcased the essence of Sardinian heritage in every detail and stitch. It was a celebration of history, artistry, and the timeless beauty of handmade craftsmanship, leaving an indelible mark on all who attended.
