Tomi Lappi Rides Into the Spotlight Through the Lens of Yke O’Hara

The dancer, model, performer, and adult-content creator brings a provocative neo-Western fantasy to life in a striking new portrait series.

Tomi Lappi knows how to command a frame.

Photographed by Yke O’Hara, the tattooed performer transforms the clean white studio into his own private stage—part fashion editorial, part dance performance, and part playful cowboy fantasy. Every photograph draws upon Lappi’s physicality, balancing sculpted strength with the flexibility and expressive gestures of a trained mover.

A black cowboy hat and neckerchief establish the story’s Western vocabulary. Instead of conventional denim or ranchwear, however, Lappi wears a minimal black brief with dramatic lower-leg pieces by Ge de Rosa. The flared, sculptural accessories create an exaggerated silhouette that resembles deconstructed cowboy boots or leather chaps. Their weight and volume offer a sharp counterpoint to his otherwise exposed figure.

O’Hara’s high-key studio lighting strips the setting back to its essentials: body, clothing, movement, and attitude. Selective monochrome treatments intensify the graphic quality of the photographs, emphasizing Lappi’s tattoos, muscular definition, and the sweeping black shapes around his legs.

The strongest images are driven by motion. Lappi flexes, crouches, twists, points, and throws himself sideways across the frame. These are not passive modeling poses; they feel like fragments of choreography. Even the quieter portraits retain a palpable tension, whether he is lowering the brim of his hat, meeting the camera with a focused stare, or sitting with the relaxed confidence of a contemporary outlaw.

Makeup artist Alfonso Dominguez keeps the grooming polished while allowing Lappi’s natural features and tattoos to remain central. The result is masculine but theatrical, knowingly provocative without losing its fashion focus.

There is humor here, too. A flexed double-biceps pose becomes delightfully exaggerated, while an irreverent flash of the tongue disrupts the seriousness of the classic Western archetype. Lappi performs masculinity with a wink: bold, sensual, athletic, and entirely conscious of the camera.

Through O’Hara’s lens, the cowboy is no longer a solitary figure riding across an open landscape. He is a dancer beneath the studio lights—wearing very little, taking up space, and rewriting the role on his own terms.
