Salvatore Ferragamo Mens Fall/Winter 2015 Milan

Deep inside the dark and mysterious Salvatore Ferragamo video generated forest on Sunday, designer Massimiliano Giornetti conjured up a menswear collection filled with moody and poetic pieces.

On an earth covered catwalk, models appeared with long, thick knit scarves wrapped around their necks, plaid, checked outerwear buttoned up as if to fight against the cold, and classily tailored full cut trousers that finished in beautiful two toned lace up business shoes.

The real attraction of this collection however, was the odd assortment of animals that coexisted in Giornetti woods. There were some well-placed owls, looking spooky with their gold eyes peaking out from a top. A flock of birds were startled into flight and flew across coats, while embroidered butterflies were chosen to alight on blazers.

Beside these creatures which felt organic to the surroundings that the designer had created for this show, were quite a few incongruous alternatives. A shaggy buffalo dominated a top and the side of a jacket. Zebras herded around the shoulder blades of an overcoat and a lifelike baboon looked menacing stitched into front of double breasted knee length coat.

If these additions were jarring, even they couldn’t distract for too long from the beauty and craftsmanship that brought them into being. Thankfully Giornetti is no doctor Moreau. His sartorial hybrids will make it off the fashion island and into more than a few men’s wardrobes next winter.
