Timo Weiland Men’s RTW Spring 2016

One can always expect a youthful vibe from Timo Weiland, and the spring collection didn’t stray too far from the oeuvre of designers Timo Weiland, Donna Kang and Alan Eckstein.

“I love you more than being 17″ — a lyric from The Strokes song “Evening Sun” — informed the collection and presentation, which featured too-cool-for-school models standing in front of static TVs.

“It’s all about summer in the city. The TV is on, but no one is watching,” Weiland said. This static print was translated onto intarsia sweaters, which were styled with either a trouser short or a wide-leg pant with a slight flare. “Our customer works in a variety of industries so we didn’t want it to have too much volume,” he said.

For outerwear, the designers updated classic jacket silhouettes from the Fifties with elevated fabrics including a silk, pin-striped bomber jacket, a white Japanese denim jacket with a contrasting collar and a suede baseball jacket.

Although there’s an endearing charm that comes across in the boyish styling, it sometimes reduces the stronger pieces.
