Thirty-year-old fashion wiz kid Olivier Rousteing, the man behind the Parisian label Balmain, is known as much for his intricately embroidered runway pieces as he is for being the unofficial designer of the Kardashian klan. After whipping up custom outfits for the Kardashian family to wear at Kanye’s Yeezy Season 3 show, Rousteing turned out a blinged-out jean jacket for Kanye for the Met Gala red carpet that was even harder to whip up than his wife’s intricate, floor-length dress.
Just last year, Rousteing and Balmain collaborated with mass retailer H&M on an affordable offering of head-turning pieces that sold out in minutes. And because Rousteing is the Energizer bunny of fashion designers, he’s teaming up with the world’s leading force in gear you actually want to wear when sweating your ass off—Nike.

Rousteing’s collection for “Football Nouveau,” as this ongoing collaborative series is dubbed (upcoming partners include Louis Vuitton’s Kim Jones and Undercover’s Jun Takahashi), features sweatpants, shirts, and one particularly Balmain-y jacket called the NikeLab N98. (Rousteing is never one to turn down the use of a good zipper.) As you can see from the photos, the color palette is pared down to just black and gold, which are used heavily in Rousteing’s Balmain designs, but in this soccer-inspired context feel less luxe and more sporty. In his own words, “Black is timeless, and gold is for victory.”
There’s no doubt it takes a certain kind of confidence to roll up to the gym (or even stroll around the city) in a full black/gold spandex sweatsuit. But for a look that’s slightly more chilled-out, there’s a collection of four different sneakers you can wear with any sport-leaning gear in your arsenal or with some sweats and a cardigan on the weekend.
At the end of the day, even if these clothes don’t exactly make you an honorary Kardashian, don’t be surprised if they get you Yeezy-esque levels of attention next time you hit the treadmill. You can also check out some great pair of shoes for treadmill exercise at Sportsly.NET
