How to prepare for a Dance Shoot like Fernando Carratalá by Antonio Lozano

I’ve been digging for images to inspired me thought all this years. One time I had the experience -working behind the scenes, as part of a crew for a local photographer– and they did a  fabulous and tremendously beautiful work with a professional male dancer.

Since ever, I have always feel attracted by Male Dancers and they enigmatic way to perform in front of the lens.

How can a photographer be prepared for a Dance shoot? Is simple depends on the aesthetics, example taken by professional photographer Antonio Lozano and Spanish dancer Fernando Carratalá from Victor Ullate Ballet, Alicante.

Decisions should be taken, like the photos be more classic or contemporary? Are the dancer is wearing tights or dancer costumes? A leotard or a dress? Shooting outside the streets, studio or scenario? I think Antonio tends to be more like contemporary, but not loosing a classic to match the surroundings. However, sometimes a more dancish look in a contemporary setting can be quite striking.

Antonio Lozano called friend stylist Antonio Bordera to enjoy this work and styled Fernando in black tights and using a mesh black cape to highlighted his male figure. Make up Estefania Vazquez

In this example, they worked in a studio, and setting a nice softly high lights around the space, with help by Sergio Moreno. Photographer assistant by Mercedes Andugar.

One thing you cannot forget, you should advise to any dancer or performer, do a little warm up before the photo shoot. This kind of sessions could take easily 1 hour maximum 2 hs to get the perfect picture.
