Rihanna schooled the fashion crowd on Monday night (March 6), presenting her “Detention” themed Fall 2017 FENTY x PUMA Ready to Wear collection in a Hollywood-worthy production at the Bibliotheque National de France.
Surrounded by stacks of books three floors high, showgoers were seated at study tables the length of the room, that also doubled as the runways.
The Bad Gal continued her subversive streak this season, drawing inspiration from classic preppy ensembles, school uniforms, and sporty athleisure for a collection that seemed fit for under-the-bleachers activities of the illicit—or at least, not parentally condoned—kind. Here, we recap the highs of the show with menswear.
The show started with a flurry of lights and models filing out in front of the shelves, hanging off the railings and scowling like moody teenagers.
Then they headed downstairs and walked the study tables as music blared. It was electrifying. The photo ops couldn’t have been better, as the male and female models stomped by in all manner of cool-looking university wear, from a tennis sweater dress to a tartan bustier, velour track suits to cropped puffer jackets.
The feet were at nearly eye level, letting everyone take in all the new Fenty thigh high sneaker boots, Mary Jane sock booties and creepers, in mixed tartan, of course.
By the time Rihanna took her bow, she was beaming and Delevingne couldn’t contain herself, jumping up to applaud. Even Pinault seemed pleased.
