Do you always look your best?
It only takes 1/10 of a second to make a first impression, which is why male grooming is so important. But there are certain, less obvious things every man should know when it comes to grooming.
Read on for seven important grooming tips for men that will help you make the right impression, every time.
1. Scrub Your Face
A quick wipe with a flannel won’t do. Using a trusted scrub at least weekly is essential to keeping your skin in top condition. They’re designed to exfoliate away dead skin, in a gentle way to keep your skin happy.
But gleaming skin shouldn’t come at a cost to the planet. Look for natural ingredients like apricot kernels or oats, rather than microbeads.
2. Wash Your Hair Less
Dirt, sweat, and dead skin collect in our hair, so washing it frequently is essential. But shampoo can dry out the scalp and hair, leaving it frizzy, dull, and like straw. For black men grooming afro-textured hair requires a little extra care to look after your scalp.

If your hair meets this description and is unmanageable then washing it too often could be the cause. Instead of shampooing every day, try limiting it to every other day to see results.
3. Shave the Back Of Your Neck
By shaving the back of your neck once a week, you could add a week or two onto your next visit to the barber.

To do this, use a trimmer. They’re smaller than clippers and you can get ones specific for hairline trimming. To see what you’re doing, use a handheld mirror. Don’t go up too high, or make straight lines – these tend to look funny when they grow out.
4. Find Your Signature Scent
Aftershaves and colognes should compliment you, not knock people out. Less is often more, in this case. That goes for the amount you put on and the collection you own.
Stick to 1 or 2 classic scents that you like, rather than a jumble of 8 or more. Woody, herby or spicey scents are good for winter and lighter, citrus notes work best in the summer.
5. Don’t Neglect Your Feet…
You might not get them out that often, but good foot care is important. After a bath, when the skin is soft, use a pumice stone to remove dead skin.

When summer rolls around, you get show off your sandals on good looking feet that won’t be an eyesore.
6. …Or Your Hands
Cutting your nails once a week is the bare minimum you should be doing. Try doing it after a bath or shower when they’re softest to make it easier.

But have you noticed any flaky, rough skin around the nail-bed? To get rid of that, all you need to do is use a little moisturizer every few days to keep it hydrated.
7. Vitamins and Food
Your diet plays a huge role in how good you look. If you’re eating too much junk food, it puts a strain on your pores.
Eat a diet full of vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruit, and dark, leafy greens. Where possible, try to stick to organic, lean meats like turkey, lamb, and grass-fed beef.

Some key vitamins for healthy skin are:
- Vitamin E
- Magnesium bisglycinate
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin C
