His charisma and humor caught over 8M fans’ attention on the now extinct app, Vine. His success catapulted him into a life in the entertainment industry and the public eye. In the years since, he’s built a career in both acting and music by starring in numerous films and releasing singles.

“Raising awareness on causes is extremely important, but I am much more of a hands-on person… It’s not enough for me to speak on my platform. I want to be involved.”

Earlier this year, he took on the role of Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls on Broadway. Dallas’ approach to philanthropy is to lead by example. He uses his platform to encourage others to pick causes truly important to them and to become hands on.

Q: In September, you released your debut album. What was your creative process?

Cameron: I wrote with two people, my friends Chris Miles and Emanuel Franco. At the time, the three of us lived together for two years and did everything together, so it was another project for us to take on. We created something we all could relate to.

Q: You’re intentional with how you spend your energy. What causes or organizations do you support?

Cameron: When I first started, I focused on helping foster children. It’s something I stand behind. I would go to foster homes and orphanages and spend time with the kids doing things like building bikes. Raising awareness on causes is extremely important, but I am much more of a hands-on person. For example, most people don’t know that when these kids move from house to house, they use trash bags to carry their stuff. It’s sad, but I can make a difference by doing things like getting them duffel bags. It’s not enough for me to speak on my platform. I want to be involved.

Q: What made you want to pursue Broadway?

Cameron: I’m a big fan of pushing myself into uncomfortable situations and doing things I’ve never done before. Everyone was extremely welcoming, so it was a great experience, and I’m happy that it was with those people that I got to do something that I’d never would have dreamt of doing.

Q: Have you ever been to Mexico, and what do you like about it?

Cameron: I’ve been to Mexico City when I filmed my music video, Why Haven’t I Met You? Being in Mexico is always a special experience because it is such a beautiful place.

Q: What was your experience with Vine?

Cameron: I was making content, and it was really fun. It was something new at the time, and it was one of the first times where I was creatively doing short-form videos. I love making little videos and seeing the reactions people give. It’s cool if I can make someone happy from something I create.

Q: How do you think TikTok is different?

Cameron: It’s just massive and crazy how much it’s grown. To see how many people are using it compared to Vine

Q: Do you feel a sense of responsibility to make your followers aware or conscious of specific issues in the world?

Cameron: I feel like I did carry that weight for a while and it wasn’t necessarily the weight that I wanted. It was a weight that other people were putting on me. Everyone was telling me where my energy should go and what kind of influencer to be. It slowly turned into me, holding back from being my true self. It has to be natural, and it can’t be forced. Often, these kids, especially when they’re younger and join the industry, there are a lot of people trying to get them to fight for the cause they want. It gets political and weird.
