Yohji Yamamoto Spring/Summer 2025 Paris

In a time when the world faces both political and environmental uncertainties, Yohji Yamamoto brings a sense of comfort and solace with his Spring/Summer 2025 collection. Drawing inspiration from his personal study of Buddhism, Yamamoto crafts a lineup of lightweight, airy garments designed to ease the burden of an increasingly dangerous world.

With a focus on creating a collection suitable for the hot summer months, Yamamoto showcases his mastery of intricate, internal stitching techniques. The absence of linings highlights the delicate craftsmanship required to achieve each piece’s elegant shape. The designer’s choice of lightweight fabrics, such as silk and rayon, only further emphasizes the breezy, loose-fitting nature of the garments.

The collection’s tone is lighthearted yet sophisticated, with roomy, three-quarter-length trousers swooshing down the runway alongside frock coats featuring uneven tails and adjustable lengths. Long, fluid black coats are adorned with vibrant flower and planet designs, adding a whimsical touch to the overall aesthetic.

Making a special appearance, renowned actress and Yamamoto’s close friend Charlotte Rampling walked the show in oversized trousers, suspenders, and a black hat, channeling the iconic Charlie Chaplin. The collection’s light, comfortable, and versatile nature is further highlighted by the use of short-ish white trousers with scribble prints and doodles, as well as long, sheer, and droopy knits with holes and ladders.

Incorporating uplifting phrases like “You are the sunshine of my life” and Buddhist texts into the designs, Yamamoto’s collection seeks to inspire and uplift its audience. This sentiment is echoed in Rampling’s post-show remarks, as she proudly discusses her treasured collection of Yamamoto pieces that “go on forever.”

Yohji Yamamoto’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection beautifully balances comfort and elegance, creating a sense of timelessness amidst the chaos of the modern world. Through his craft, Yamamoto reminds us that fashion, when executed with heart and purpose, has the power to transcend both time and circumstance.
