Dressel’s defining moment came in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when he won the 100-meter freestyle in 47.02 seconds, beating Australia’s Kyle Chalmers. This victory cemented his status as one of the greatest American sprinters. Rowdy Gaines, NBC Sports analyst and gold medalist, lauds Dressel’s unparalleled speed and strength, critical in a sport dominated by American athletes.

Dressel’s exceptional athleticism is evident in his vertical leap, rivaling NBA players. His powerful start gives him an edge, as described by Gaines. Dressel’s meticulous practice and innate talent make him a formidable competitor. He vividly describes the serene yet intense experience of starting a race and the unique sensation of entering the water.

In Tokyo, Dressel won five gold medals, adding to his two from Rio 2016, and broke several world records. His success brought him endorsements from Omega, Speedo, Toyota, and Nobull. Entering the 2024 Paris Olympics, Dressel remains the face of U.S. men’s swimming and a top contender.

However, the mental toll of high-level competition led Dressel to seek help and take an eight-month hiatus in 2022. He now manages his mental health with therapy and limited social media use. Despite missing the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, Dressel is focused on returning to form.
