Matthieu Blazy Brings Playful Nostalgia to Bottega Veneta’s Spring 2025 Collection

Matthieu Blazy’s Spring 2025 collection for Bottega Veneta brought a whimsical sense of childhood wonder to the Milan runway, blending experimental design with a touch of nostalgia. Guests, including TikTok sensation Jools Lebron, sat on animal-shaped beanbag chairs—Jacob Elordi on a bunny, Michelle Yeoh on a ladybug—and watched as Blazy transformed the runway into a playful dreamscape that evoked memories of playing dress-up in your parents’ closet.

“Extravagant, luxurious, and full of childhood wonder,” said Lebron after the show, perfectly summarizing the mood. Dressed in oversized sunglasses, she held back tears of joy as she described Blazy’s playful yet powerful creations.

Blazy’s goal was simple yet profound: to capture the thrill and joy of discovering clothes for the first time. “The wonder you have as a kid when you try something, the first experience — it’s almost like primal fashion,” he explained, drawing inspiration from the curiosity and experimentation that children bring to fashion.

His playful approach came through in the clothes: supersized tailoring, oversized blousons, and perfectly imperfect T-shirts and pants that echoed the chaos of a kid’s first day at school, wrinkled from playtime at recess. Blazy’s penchant for experimentation was evident in flapper dresses mixed with flamenco ruffles, and lumberjack shirts that morphed into oversized jackets.

While some pieces, like lopsided skirts with a single pant leg, pushed the boundaries of wearability, Blazy redeemed himself with stunning, chic moments. Simple white and black shift dresses shimmered with fringe, while a mango-colored ruched jersey dress brought elegance to the playful atmosphere. A rust-colored voluminous top with a swooping leather neckline, paired with a flowing white skirt, stood out as a masterful blend of creativity and sophistication.

Most of the collection leaned towards daywear, channeling urban chic with a hint of storytelling. Each outfit seemed to offer a glimpse into the lives of the characters Blazy imagined: a dad in a sharp suit, carrying his daughter’s pink backpack, or a CEO toting flowers she bought for herself. Blazy highlighted these everyday moments, reminding us that fashion is an expression of personal freedom, even in the simplest of acts.

“I was interested in the idea of a simple act of fashion that happens every day,” Blazy noted. “I think sometimes we don’t look at them enough.”

Matthieu Blazy continues to surprise and delight with his fearless designs, proving once again that fashion can evoke joy, nostalgia, and experimentation all at once. In an era marked by uncertainty, Blazy’s vision is a reminder that sometimes, the wonder of fashion lies in returning to its playful roots.
