Missoni Spring/Summer 2016 Milan

With India on her mind, Angela Missoni offered a bright and exotic proposal for spring, bathed in rich, spicy hues. She stimulated the senses with saffron yellow and Jaipur pink, and worked her signature loom knits in curry orange and sapphire greens.

Taking cues from Indian textile masters, the designer created pretty patchwork cardigans with shawl collars, which models wore nonchalantly slung over their shoulders as they trod a catwalk strewn with red, orange and yellow rose petals. The patchwork notion continued on laid-back tunic shirts, incorporating both cotton and space-dyed knits, which Missoni paired with madras-patterned cargo shorts and thick summer scarves for a gentlemanly, mellow feel.

Adding a colonial spin to her Eastern voyage, the house’s outerwear centered on multipocket safari jackets done in sand or ivory suede, offering a nice balance to its signature knits. A series of hybrid field jackets — shirt in front, trench in the back — were particularly cool.

This season also saw the debut of Missoni’s line of limited-edition luggage pieces, ranging from mini utility cases to extra-deep suitcases, in collaboration with Globe-Trotter.
