Step into the vibrant world of Paris with a captivating snapshot of the latest fashion scene. Balenciaga, the renowned fashion house, recently unveiled its much-anticipated spring 2024 collection, named “Capital B.” In a groundbreaking digital fashion show, the event was filmed in a mesmerizing time-lapse at their iconic address, 10, avenue George V, Paris. The dynamic urban show, created by the talented Georgian designer Demna, captivated audiences worldwide as it was broadcasted live on their website at 3pm on Tuesday, May 30.
Immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of Parisian life as models strut their stuff, donning trendy sunglasses, strolling along the pavement on foot or with a skateboard in tow.
Some are accompanied by their four-legged friends, while others elegantly carry parcels or shopping baskets.
Amidst this vibrant backdrop, the sudden downpour sends busy passers-by scurrying for shelter, creating a lively scene reminiscent of a waltz with a thousand beats, set to the enchanting melodies of Édith Piaf’s timeless classic, “Sous le Ciel de Paris.”
Balenciaga’s remarkable 5-minute short film, artfully directed by the Spanish artist Mau Morgó, showcases a continuous shot, unveiling the vision of their artistic director, Demna (also known as Demna Gvasalia). The collection comprises 44 striking looks, thoughtfully divided into two chapters: the ‘wardrobe’ line featuring timeless essentials, and a selection of more seasonal ready-to-wear pieces.
For women, the collection presents a variety of stunning ensembles, such as a long, refined black velvet dress, an exquisitely sequined and silver-fringed disco-inspired dress, and a crimson red dress adorned with endless pleats, crafted from a refined and practical technical crepe fabric.
The men’s line showcases a half-tartan, half-quilted coat in rare wool, a sleek jet-black trench coat, and a unique creation called the ‘Towel Skirt.’ This unconventional garment, available in beige, indigo blue, charcoal grey, and deep black, elegantly overlays baggy jogging trousers, exuding a sense of contemporary style and creativity.
To complement these architecturally-designed outfits, Balenciaga introduces a range of accessories, including their iconic ‘Hourglass’ handbag, fishnet and crystal bags, as well as the versatile ‘Romeo’ mules and biker boots that seamlessly transform into slippers to suit the wearer’s preferences.
The democratized digital fashion show represents a new era of inclusivity in the fashion industry.
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has prompted fashion houses to reimagine their online communication strategies, Balenciaga pays homage to the vibrant tapestry of daily life in the capital through this accessible digital event. Broadcasting the show on the internet, the models gracefully parade down the street, set against the backdrop of Balenciaga’s couture boutique in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. This boutique, situated in the Golden Triangle, occupies the exact location where the label’s founder, Cristobal Balenciaga, inaugurated his first boutique, affectionately known as ‘Le Dix,’ back in 1937.
The collection passionately explores the art of tailoring and the interplay of structure
The collection, designed for spring 2024, passionately explores the art of tailoring and the interplay of structure, offering a delightful homage to Balenciaga’s previous show in March at the Carousel du Louvre, where designs sans logos took center stage.
This stylistic choice by the fashion house, which is part of the Kering luxury group helmed by François-Henri Pinault, reflects their understated approach following a controversial advertising scandal that occurred last December.
