Givenchy Men’s Fall 2024 Paris

The Givenchy Fall 2024-2025 menswear collection will be showcased at Les Salons, 3 Avenue George V in Paris.

In the hallowed halls of men’s fashion, the Givenchy show this Wednesday marked a departure from tradition as there was no customary bow at the end. The reason? This collection was a creation of the in-house design team. While no one stepped forward to take a bow, the poised and impressive display on the runway certainly deserved an ovation.

The exclusive showcase unfolded before a select audience of men’s fashion editors in an intimate setting—barely 100 seats adorned with linen-covered café tables featuring delicacies like small lobster rolls, truffle-covered sandwiches, and sweet pastels. The ambiance was as refined as the collection itself, setting the stage for an extraordinary display of French-inspired elongated tailoring and meticulous experimentation.

From the striking uber high-waist suits in pale blue to the sophisticated double-breasted tuxedos with an unconventional fifth extra central button, every piece exuded an air of sophistication. The collection showcased a range of natty slant pocket leather safari jackets, adding a touch of modernity to the classic tailoring.

One notable trend that the collection tapped into, both in street style and couture, was the use of horse tails to trim or completely cover gent’s coats and dusters. This avant-garde touch added a unique and bold dimension to the already exceptional pieces, pushing the boundaries of traditional menswear.

The leitmotif of the collection was a 1953 drawing of a cat by the founder, Hubert de Givenchy. This feline-inspired motif adorned pale gray silk tops, smooth coats, and white astrakhan overshirts. Some of the cats even featured bright orange eyes, a playful nod to the iconic orange cat in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” affectionately named Cat by Audrey Hepburn, Givenchy’s muse.

While there were moments of quaint charm, such as the series of jacquard shirts and the final embroidered Saharienne, the overall mood was a resounding success. Presented as an in-between collection following the departure of Matthew Williams on December 1 and the anticipation of his successor, Givenchy’s in-house team delivered a statement of elegance and innovation.

As the fashion world awaits news on the next creative director, Givenchy’s latest collection stands as a testament to the brand’s ability to evolve and captivate, even in the midst of transitions. This in-house masterpiece not only reaffirms Givenchy’s commitment to pushing boundaries but also leaves a lasting impression as a chapter of style and sophistication in the brand’s storied legacy.
