Comme Des Garçons Spring/Summer 2025 Paris

Renowned designer Rei Kawakubo illuminated the runway with her Comme des Garçons Homme Plus show, lifting spirits through the harmonious interplay of refined tailoring, vibrant hues, and intricate embellishments. As a welcome contrast to the often somber state of global affairs, Kawakubo expressed her desire to “hope for some light, even if very small.”

Industry influencers, such as Pharrell Williams and Willy Chavarria, gathered to witness the enchanting spectacle, which unfolded against the backdrop of Diaghilev’s “Ballets Russes” musical arrangement. Kawakubo’s vision for this collection was anchored in tailoring, elevated by an array of ruffles – from rigid geometric forms to softer, romantic configurations reminiscent of Elizabethan styles.

A predominantly black palette was infused with spirited bursts of Barbie pink, which appeared as striking accents on tailored jackets and loose shorts. As the show progressed, Kawakubo continued to push the boundaries of color and texture, introducing lustrous satins and velvets, some flecked with metallics and others arranged in intricate knife pleats.

The hairstyling, helmed by Takeo Arai, perfectly complemented the collection’s festive undertones, with models adorned in vibrant, playful barrettes. The vivid hues reached their pinnacle in fluorescent frock coats lavishly decorated with loose fabric bows, while tailored garments bore lush ruffles, geometric protrusions, and cascading folds that cascaded down the runway.

Kawakubo’s artistic vision culminated in the final look – a black tulle trench coat enveloping a mesmerizing brocade adorned with emerald and crimson metallic discs. This celebratory ensemble garnered enthusiastic applause, embodying the spirit of hope and festivity that infused the entire collection.

In essence, Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons Homme Plus show offered a resplendent fusion of hope, artistry, and sartorial innovation. The radiant showcase of vibrant hues and opulent fabrics served as a poignant reminder that, even in the face of adversity, the power of beauty and creativity can illuminate the darkness and uplift the human spirit.
