Lacoste Spring ’24 Collection: A Fashionable Game Changer by Pelagia Kolotouros
Lacoste’s Spring ’24 collection hit Paris with the kind of buzz usually reserved for sports showdowns, but this time, the stakes were high in the fashion arena. Creative director Pelagia Kolotouros took over a former bank in central Paris, transforming it into a beach-inspired runway space. The atmosphere was electric, with fevered chanting echoing from blocks away, rivaling the excitement of a Nadal vs. Djokovic match.

Kolotouros seamlessly wove the heritage of founder René Lacoste into her sophomore collection, spotlighting his off-court elegance from the 1920s. The show featured references to his refined seaside style, punctuated with modern streetwear elements that Lacoste fans will undoubtedly adore.

The runway itself? A sandy stretch that exuded a coastal, carefree vibe, complemented by U.K.-based artist Susie MacMurray’s wave-like net installation and screens displaying crashing ocean waves. It set the tone for a relaxed yet sharp collection, with a lineup that paid homage to the brand’s origins while embracing today’s aesthetic.

Kolotouros’ designs ranged from 1920s-inspired swimwear and silky robes to sharply tailored suits crafted from a new piqué fabric reminiscent of tropical wool. The collection also featured oversized leather blousons and shorts, ensuring a comfortable slouch that dripped with cool sophistication. Streetwear pieces like boxy, neo-polo shirts made from denim and barely-there micro-ripstop nylon parkas showed the brand’s move toward casual, wearable fashion.
Of course, tennis-themed accents were ever-present, with witty details such as sweaters emblazoned with a racquet motif—where the wearer’s head amusingly took the place of the tennis ball. The color palette, too, was a winner: earthy sandy beiges, rich chocolate browns, and bold tennis-ball yellows punctuated by blacks and greens.
Kolotouros has solidified her place in Lacoste’s modern-day revival, skillfully blending heritage with innovation. While the brand’s return to the fashion forefront is in motion, this spring collection proves that Lacoste is making the right moves, one stylish serve at a time.
