Nicky Champa and Pierre Boo were aspiring actors in Hollywood when they first met at a movie audition four year ago. Once month later, the couple started living together and soon after, began chronicling their relationship on social media. First, on Instagram, posing for stylish snaps; and then TikTok, staging 15-second comedic videos.
It was on Tik Tok that their fanbase skyrocketed! The couple have over 18 million followers combined on the platform.
The team at CiNava Photography met up with Tik Tok’s hottest couple, Nicky Champa and Pierre Boo, for a fashion shoot in sunny LA.
When did you realize you were TikTok stars?
Pierre: When we started to be recognized in public, it began to settle in that the numbers watching our videos were actually real people.
What goes into creating a successful TikTok page?
Nicky: Consistency is key. People want to see more and more. We’re constantly thinking about what else we can share to entertain our followers.
Do you ever get creator’s block?
Nicky: Yes, of course! Our solution is to take a step back and actually live life. There is so much value in the simple things many of us take for granted.
When developing content, how many days do you plan in advance?
Pierre: Ideally, we like to have an idea the day before we film something, however, that rarely happens! We usually create a concept a few hours before we shoot.
Give readers the best tip on how to make the perfect TikTok video.
Pierre: Keep it as organic and relatable as possible. Great lighting is important, too! It makes a video pop and is more appealing.
Besides yourselves, do you have favorite artists that you follow on TikTok?
Pierre: I really admire the work and humor that @kallmekris puts into her videos and characters.
Nicky: I like the free-spiritedness and rawness of @bretmanrock.
What is a typical day in the life of Nicky and PIerre?
Nicky: We like to structure our day where we go to the gym early in the morning, film TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, and Snapchat content afterwards and then keep the later afternoon open to focusing on our offline lives.
Can you tell us a little bit about your relationship with fashion?
Pierre: I grew up in Paris and was constantly surrounded with the most cutting edge and trail blazing style. Nicky moved to New York City when he was 17 and began experimenting with different styles.
Growing up, were you the stylish kids in school?
Pierre: Not me. Money was tight for my family so I made do with what I had in my closet.
Nicky: I was stylish when I was younger. I would take risks with bright colors and unusual styles but I was teased a lot for it. Once I got to high school, I sort of just laid low, until I graduated.
Is that when you broke out the nail polish?
Nicky: (Laughing) Maybe? I’m not sure! I don’t think there’s any real statement with wearing nail polish other than that it makes us happy and it’s simply a part of our expression.
Pierre: That’s true. We enjoy a sense of freedom in how we express ourselves. I think our followers appreciate when we take risks and experiment with our fashions and style.
What are three items in your closet that you really couldn’t live without?
Pierre: My favorite Champion sweatshirt and sweatpants, my puffer jacket and any comfy pair of sneakers. (Laughing) I need comfortable footwear to function in everyday life!
Nicky: I love fuzzy shorts. I get hot all of the time so I can’t do fuzzy pants. I also love my workout gear and I gotta have a baseball cap. My hair drives me crazy when it’s in my face.
What are some of your long-term goals as influencers?
Pierre: We’re super excited to start sharing more and more of our lives through longer format content on our YouTube and we plan on developing a show around all of that in the near future.
Nicky: We dove into social media as a sort of steppingstone to not only our influencing goals but creative ones as well. I think our focus now is to use our platforms to showcase our creative projects.
What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs?
Nicky: Our biggest piece of advice would be that no matter how tough it gets or how much you want to give up, keep pushing. Chances are that success is waiting for you right around the corner.
