Balenciaga Spring 2027: Pierpaolo Piccioli Finds Freedom in the Everyday

For Spring 2027 in Paris, Pierpaolo Piccioli continues to define what Balenciaga looks like under his direction. The collection, presented at the Tennis Club de Paris, revolves around the idea of translating couture thinking into everyday clothing—shirts, jeans, bombers, tailoring, sneakers and bags—rather than treating couture as something reserved for eveningwear.

At the center of the presentation was French artist Aude Franjou’s monumental textile sculpture “Les Coraux de la Liberté,” an image of interconnectedness and organic growth that gave the collection its poetic framework. Balenciaga describes Spring 2027 through ideas of freedom, lightness and an “unsized” architecture in which clothing is allowed to move around the body rather than rigidly defining it.

For Fashionably Male, we’re concentrating exclusively on the menswear, where that philosophy translates into one of Piccioli’s most approachable Balenciaga wardrobes yet.

A Softer Balenciaga Man

Looking across the menswear in the runway images, the immediate change is proportion.

Trousers are consistently wide, long and fluid, sometimes almost pooling over the shoes. Jackets, bombers and shirts have considerable volume, but the effect isn’t aggressively oversized. Instead, the clothes appear intentionally relaxed around the body.

That distinction matters. Balenciaga’s own notes describe entire looks made from exceptionally light materials—including double cashmere, kid mohair, poplin, denim and featherweight techno taffeta—with some complete ensembles weighing less than a kilogram.

The screenshot makes that lightness surprisingly visible.

An olive bomber is paired with grey pleated trousers and turquoise underneath. A saturated cobalt jacket falls over enormous white pants. Another model wears an almost fluorescent orange blazer against white trousers. Elsewhere, a brown oversized coat is interrupted by an intense orange top.

Rather than building each outfit around one dramatic object, Piccioli uses color as architecture.

Color Takes Over

This may be the strongest characteristic of the menswear.

Cobalt blue, orange, turquoise, acid yellow, fuchsia and coral pink punctuate a foundation of white, beige, brown, black and washed denim.

Piccioli’s color blocking is particularly effective because the silhouettes themselves remain relatively straightforward. A bright pink jacket with white trousers doesn’t need elaborate styling. Neither does the yellow oversized T-shirt worn with distressed wide-leg denim.

The color does the work.

It’s also grounded in Balenciaga history. Piccioli has pointed out that although Cristóbal Balenciaga is strongly associated with black, the founder also worked with powerful color. For Spring 2027, Piccioli approaches those shades instinctively rather than treating them as decoration

Couture Without Looking Like Couture

The most interesting proposition here is not necessarily visible at first glance.

A bomber is still a bomber. Jeans still look like jeans. A T-shirt remains recognizable as a T-shirt.

But Piccioli is interested in how they’re constructed.

He specifically developed bias-cut denim for the collection and applied techniques associated with Balenciaga’s couture atelier to ordinary garments such as white shirts and T-shirts. The intention is essentially to put couture intelligence inside clothing that doesn’t announce itself as couture.

That idea works especially well in menswear.

The white trousers have an almost weightless movement. Jackets curve away from the torso instead of gripping it. Even the beige utility pieces and black outerwear visible in the runway selection possess a softness that prevents them from becoming conventional workwear.

There are echoes of Cristóbal Balenciaga’s famous balloon, cocoon and draped volumes, but Piccioli reduces them into something a man could plausibly incorporate into an everyday wardrobe.

Denim Keeps Everything Grounded

Then comes the denim.

Several of the strongest men’s looks pair polished Balenciaga pieces with enormous, worn-in jeans.

A loose yellow T-shirt falls over distressed denim. A pale blue shirt is worn almost casually with another oversized pair. A cream jacket appears with faded jeans and a simple blue layer underneath.

This prevents the collection from becoming overly precious.

Piccioli’s Balenciaga man can wear sophisticated tailoring one day and baggy jeans the next—or combine the two. That collision between couture construction and commonplace clothing is really the foundation of Spring 2027.

The New Balenciaga Accessories

The bags deserve attention too.

Instead of overwhelming the looks with logos, the runway shows large, soft bags carried almost like shopping totes. Brown, burgundy, blue, grey and bright green versions add another color accent without dominating the clothing.

Reuters similarly noted the prominence of supple bags without visible logos and a move toward considerably more minimal footwear. Piccioli’s slipper-like Lounge Sneaker and soft, flat footwear represent a noticeable departure from the exaggerated sneaker language long associated with Balenciaga’s previous era.

Even the sunglasses shown throughout the menswear feel different: large, futuristic and sometimes mask-like, but integrated into otherwise uncomplicated outfits.

Black Still Has Its Place

Piccioli hasn’t eliminated the darker Balenciaga vocabulary.

Some of the sharpest men’s looks in the selection are almost entirely black: relaxed trousers, substantial jackets and voluminous outerwear creating silhouettes through shape rather than graphics.

Against all that orange, cobalt and pink, these looks provide a necessary pause.

And then there are the earth tones—sand, camel and brown—which may ultimately prove among the most wearable propositions of the collection. The tan layered look toward the end of the screenshot, for example, combines relaxed trousers, an open jacket and a simple tank with an almost bohemian ease.

Nothing feels overly styled.

That may be precisely the point.

Balenciaga’s Menswear Is Learning to Breathe

Spring 2027 suggests that Piccioli isn’t interested in simply replacing one recognizable Balenciaga uniform with another.

Instead, he’s loosening it.

The oversized silhouette remains. The strange proportions remain. The streetwear vocabulary remains. But they are increasingly joined by couture construction, intense color, softer fabrics and an unexpected sense of ease.

There is still spectacle here, but it comes from a cobalt bomber against enormous white trousers or an almost electric orange blazer rather than from deliberately confrontational styling.

For menswear, “Les Coraux de la Liberté” feels less like a reinvention of the male wardrobe than a release of it: wide trousers, light jackets, washed denim, vivid color and clothes designed to move rather than restrict.

Piccioli is bringing couture down from the pedestal and putting it into the clothes men actually wear.

And that might be where his Balenciaga becomes most interesting.
