Margaret Howell has never needed spectacle to make a point. For Spring/Summer 2027, the British designer returns to Paris with a wardrobe that feels thoughtful, lived-in and refreshingly uncomplicated. Presented in Paris on October 4, the collection continues Howell’s long-running conversation around practicality, proportion and the beauty of clothes designed for actual life.

Looking specifically at the menswear, there is an almost collegiate quality running through the collection—but without slipping into costume. Relaxed tailoring, roomy trousers, crisp shirts, fine-gauge knits and knee-length shorts create a wardrobe somewhere between the university library, the studio and a quiet summer afternoon in London.
Soft Tailoring, Easy Proportions
The suits immediately establish the mood. Jackets are lightly structured and worn with straight, generously cut trousers, while shirts are deliberately allowed to extend beneath jacket hems or knitwear. That slightly undone layering is important: nothing appears excessively styled.
Howell also continues to make a convincing argument for shorts as legitimate menswear rather than purely vacation dressing. Here they arrive loose and around the knee, styled with button-down shirts, crewneck sweaters, dark socks and traditional leather shoes. It is an approach Howell explored in previous spring collections, where relaxed tailoring and shorts became part of the same practical vocabulary.
Brown Is the New Neutral

The palette is beautifully restrained. Chocolate, tobacco, stone, cream, charcoal, navy and black dominate, occasionally interrupted by muted mustard and soft white.
These earthy shades give even the simplest combinations character. A brown striped knit over dark trousers, a pale yellow shirt tucked into charcoal pants, or a dark blazer layered over a warmer ochre shirt demonstrate Howell’s ability to make subtle color relationships feel intentional.
Accessories remain equally functional. Soft bucket hats and caps reinforce the slightly eccentric British character of the collection, while black leather shoes and belts provide a consistent foundation.

Clothes That Don’t Need to Shout
Perhaps the strongest thing about Margaret Howell Spring 2027 is how little it appears to chase fashion.
There are no obvious tricks here. Instead, the interest comes from proportion, fabric, layering and attitude: sleeves casually pushed upward, shirts left long, trousers sitting naturally at the waist and tailoring given enough room to move.
In a season filled with fashion designed to immediately command a screen, Howell offers something quieter. These are clothes that might actually become better once they have been worn, softened and made personal.

And that remains one of Margaret Howell’s greatest strengths: making ordinary menswear feel remarkably considered.
